Dr. Eric Junco stands at the forefront of educational equity as the inaugural Director for Equity at Northern Illinois University's College of Education. With a rich background that bridges the gap between theory and practice, Dr. Junco's journey in education is marked by a pursuit of fostering inclusive and responsive learning environments. Through faculty panel discussions, belonging surveys, focus group research, and the dissemination of JEDI research and pedagogy-based materials, he has been a catalyst for change. His collaborative work with administrative committees to enhance mentoring and retention programs for BIPOC students and staff is a testament to his commitment to making education accessible and equitable for all.
Before his tenure at NIU, Dr. Junco honed his craft in the classroom as a high school English teacher for eleven years while also working within a community colleges for six years. His work in urban Illinois settings, particularly in Rockford and Elgin, was instrumental in developing asset-based and culturally responsive curricula, laying the groundwork for his future endeavors in educational leadership.
